WHAT IS THE IDEAL LINE?
The ideal line in karting describes the driving line on which the racetrack is driven through in the fastest time possible. This is not necessarily the shortest route, because driving the shortest route can also mean a loss of time in some places.
Each route therefore has its own individual ideal line. It is particularly characterized by the existing curves.
BASIC TIPS FOR FINDING THE IDEAL LINE
Basically, there are a few general tips that will help you to travel faster on our routes. Don’t be afraid to use the entire width of the lane, that’s what it is for! Aim at the line you want and the kart will follow by itself. And as with so many things in life, the same thing applies to karting: Practice makes perfect! The more often you drive the route, the better you can memorize the course of the road. Make a note of orientation points such as braking point, deflection point, and vertex and deflection point. A steady hand on the steering wheel can also be helpful because every steering correction brings disturbance to the kart and costs valuable time.
THIS IS HOW YOU CAN ALSO MASTER THE CURVES
Since finding the ideal line when driving a kart mainly depends on the curves of a route, we will also tell you what you need to consider when cornering. You should always approach curves from the outside and then pull yourself inwards to the apex of the curve. In order to accelerate optimally out of the curve, let yourself be carried outside at the corner exit. By opening the steering, you can take as much momentum as possible into the next straight.
The basic rules are the same for every curve, but every curve still has its own ideal line. The sharper the curve, the sharper it should be approached. Other curves, on the other hand, can be approached more round, since the apex is only reached later. If you pay attention to these details while driving, you will get a better feel for the turns as you practice.
